China GT Announces New Management in Race Control

China GT Championship is pleased to welcome Paul Taylor and Simon Maas as the Series’ Race Director and Deputy Race Director respectively commencing at Race 5 & 6 at Beijing Audi Beijing Goldenport Motor Park, 6-8 July.

Paul and Simon will lead operations in Race Control, working in conjunction with China GT’s race stewards to initiate reviews of on-track incidents. In addition, Paul and Simon will work alongside CAMF officials, the Promoter, teams, and series broadcaster in a bid to further professionalise and grow the Series.  

 

The partnership of Paul and Simon is part of a dual approach in race control with divided responsibilities, which has proven to be successful in established championships including Moto GP and Supercars Championship. The Race Director will focus on race management, liaison with stewards and teams, and regulations, while working closely with the Promoter; the Deputy Race Director will focus on race and safety operations, safety car deployments, flag signaling, general marshal conducts, and liaison with Clerk of Course and television production staff.

 

Bringing over 50 years of combined experience, the extensive career of each of the two Australians spans both domestic and international motor racing championships.  

 

Paul created the GT-1 Australia Championship and currently serves as Race Director. His career in motorsports began in the 1980s, amassing a breadth and depth of abilities across sporting and technical having fulfilled the position of Race Director for the Australian Formula Ford and Porsche Carrera Cup Championships, Bathurst 12 Hour GT race (2011-2012), V8 Supercar Development Series (2009 – 2012), as well as the Clerk of Course at the Korean and Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix (2008-2012). He served as Technical Director for the then named V8 Supercars Championship and Bathurst 12 Hour; Technical Consultant for the FIA on a WRC project; Technical Manager at the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS). 

 

Simon’s introduction to motorsport commenced in 1989 as an official at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix and since has become a specialist in race operations, medical and safety for both four and two wheel events, including: V8 Supercars, Formula 1, Moto GP, World Superbike Championship, and automotive culture events.  Simon is the General Manager of the Australian Superbike Championship. 

 

The announcement of Paul and Simon to China GT will complement Rikki Dy-Liacco and Claude Roth in each of the roles of Chief Steward and Technical Delegate respectively. 

 

With a series of measures now in place, we are looking forward to an ultra-successful and enjoyable event at Beijing Audi Goldenport Motor Park next weekend.
